Dutch

Before I return to the regularly scheduled Daily Frolics, I thought I’d introduce the spotted feet from yesterday’s post: Dutch, the camera-shy half of my dynamic duo.

My sweet, doe-eyed Dutchman is a pet photographer’s worst nightmare. He hates cameras as much as his little pug brother loves them – and because cameras have a hard time capturing black and white in the same picture, cameras hate him right back. Dutch is the official face of Frolic for both of these reasons.

He’s single pawed-ly taught me everything there is to know about photographing shy dogs and forced me to get really good at technically challenging exposure problems. Thanks to Dutch, camera-shy dogs don’t have to fear the big black eye of my Nikon… and I know how to photograph a black dog and a white dog in the same body.

    Dutch,
You are such an incredibly handsome boy, even if you hate the camera and it hates you back.

He’s so gorgeous <3 I have a camera shy beast too. Luckily she's a glutton so I can get a little bit of posing out of her before she cracks the sads!

My husky girl, Kiva, and I met Dutch late one night a couple of years ago on the Dolores Park ridge. I remember him because Kiva’s kousin, the famous dalmation named Stormy, enjoyed a play date with Dutch. He looks great — and your photos are amazing!
